MICHAEL CREES TO REMAIN PART OF EXCELR8 TEAM
EXCELR8 can confirm that Michael Crees will remain part of the team, having earlier confirmed Senna Proctor will bring forward the start of his British Touring Car Championship campaign to rounds ten, eleven and twelve at Thruxton in Hampshire.
Crees agreed a deal to join the team for the opening five rounds of the year, with Proctor then at the wheel for the second half of the campaign – a split driver programme put in place with the full approval of the championship.
Having contested the opening two meetings, Crees made the decision to stand aside for the Snetterton weekend in order to allow Ryan Bensley to make his series debut.
Bensley, a long-time backer of Crees and racer in his own right, is currently evaluating the possibility of joining the BTCC grid in the future, with a one-off outing seen as the ideal way in which he could gain first hand insight into the series.
This strategy which was agreed by and suited Crees and the team commercially, but a misunderstanding in regards to the number of allotted driver changes means the team has now brought forward Proctor’s deal to begin this weekend.
Crees will continue to work with the team off-track with eyes on a return to competition in 2026.
Justina Williams, EXCELR8 Team Owner, said:
“This is a hugely unfortunate situation for both Michael and ourselves that stems from a misunderstanding around the plans for Snetterton and how it would impact on the allotted driver changes. As a result, we have brought forwards Senna’s introduction as the second change to this weekend
“We would like to thank Michael for his efforts in the opening two rounds of the season, and look forward to welcoming him back at Thruxton to host our mutual commercial partners, and to support the team in its title challenge.”
