JOSH PRICE JOINS EXCELR8 MINI CHALLENGE PROGRAMME

Josh Price will make his debut in the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE this weekend at Snetterton after signing a deal to join forces with the EXCELR8 Motorsport team.

The 25-year-old will join EXCELR8’s multi-car assault on the headline JCW class as he makes a return to one-make racing for the first time since competing in the Renault Clio Cup back in 2015 and 2016.

Running as part of the support package to the British Touring Car Championship, Josh scored a best championship finish of sixth in his second season, scoring a victory at Brands Hatch in the final race of the year.

The youngster had been expected to fight for the title in 2017 before being given the chance to graduate to the BTCC in a Team BMR-run Subaru Levorg, going on to score a best result of ninth during a season and a half as part of the grid.

A move to TCR UK mid-way through the 2018 season saw Josh score a top ten championship finish despite only contesting six of the 14 races, with a win at Donington Park being one of three podium finishes.

Having then gone on to compete in the British GT Championship in 2019, Josh took a break from competition but will now return to action in the highly-popular MINI CHALLENGE as he bids to resurrect his racing career with the ultimate goal of working his way back up the ladder.

“I’m really excited to be joining the MINI CHALLENGE, and am keen to try and progress back to where was earlier in my career when I was part of the BTCC,” he said. “This is the first step towards that, and I’m really looking forward to getting back into a race car and seeing how I get on.

“In EXCELR8, I know I have a team behind me that has a huge amount of pedigree and expertise in the series, which is all part of the appeal for both myself and my sponsors – alongside the high profile that being on the BTCC platform provides.

“Having been out of racing for a good few years, I’m have no real expectations going into this weekend because everyone else obviously has two rounds under their belt already, so it’s case of having as much fun as possible and seeing how I get on.”

Team owner Justina Williams expressed her delight at bringing Josh into the team for his racing return.

“We’re really pleased that Josh has chosen to join us as he relaunches his racing career,” she said.

“He is a driver who displayed a lot of talent on his way up the ladder to the BTCC when he was younger, and we are excited to see how gets on at the wheel of the JCW during the remainder of the season.”
