EXCELR8 ADDS HARRY CAMPEY TO MINI CHALLENGE JCW LINE-UP

Harry Campey will make a return to racing for the first time in more than a decade after inking a deal to join the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE grid with defending champions EXCELR8.

Following a five year career in karting as a youngster, which included winning the Rotax Minimax British Open in 2011, Campey moved into car racing in the 750 Motor Club before stepping away from the sport to focus on his career and the family business; a successful Yorkshire-based haulage company that now operates a triple figure fleet of trucks.

Campey – who holds the role of Commercial and Operations Director of the business – has long harboured dreams of a return to competition, which will now come true in 2025 when he makes his racing comeback after twelve years out.

Eager to test himself on track, Campey will join EXCELR8’s multi-car entry into the headline JCW class of the MINI CHALLENGE, where he will line-up alongside series regulars Tom Ovenden, Nathan Edwards and Josh Porter as well as newcomer Marlo Cordell.

Campey’s debut in the series will come at Donington Park this weekend, with the 29-year-old eager to see what he can achieve in the high-profile BTCC support series.

“It’s been more than ten years since I raced but I’m in a position now where I’m able to get back into it and I figured if it was something that I was going to do, I was going to do it properly!” he said.

“I only really made the decision at the end of January, so it’s been a hectic few months getting everything in place. There were a few routes I could have taken, but the JCW series provides fantastic exposure for us as a business, and it will be a great way for us to entertain sponsors and staff during the season.

“The car is more technical and more challenging than anything I’ve driven before, but it’s also very exciting to drive and I’m really enjoying it. I’m not expecting to go out there and set the world alight in my rookie season, but I’m also not there to just make up the numbers.

“I’ve got a lot of experienced people around me and as I spend more time in the car, I hope we can move forwards.”

Team Owner Justina Williams said she was pleased to welcome Campey into the team for 2025.

“We’re delighted to give Harry the opportunity to return to racing this season as part of our JCW line-up,” she said. “Although he has been away from competition for a while, he showed his on-track potential with championship winning performances earlier in his career.

“Given the encouraging pace he has displayed in testing so far, we are looking forward to seeing how he progresses during the year ahead and are confident that he will be able to deliver some strong results as the season goes on.”
